The three tenors

These three were built to compare different construction methods.  See the “Three Tenors” in the blog.  All have redwood tops.  Two (the X braced and Kasha braced) are from the same board, which I had data dendrochronologically.  The wood grew some time between 979-1734 AD, depending on which side of the bigger plank the top was cut from.

Standard X braced, curly koa back and sides, redwood top, curly koa headplate, asymmetric rosette in pink abalone pearl, brown-black-white chevron purfling, quilted sapele binding casuarina fingerboard and bridge, Alaskan yellow cedar neck, side sound port.

Kasha braced – casuarina back and sides, redwood top, quilted sapele headplate, curly maple, black-white-black top, back, and side purfling, asymmetric rosette in pink abalone pearl, casuarina fingerboard and bridge, Spanish cedar neck, side sound port.

Double-back – curly maple back and sides, redwood top, east indian rosewood binding, Picasso headplate, asymmetric rosette in pink abalone pearl, casuarina fretboard and bridge, poplear neck, side sound port.
